YES, You Can Have Scoliosis and Be Pain Free!
The myth that scoliosis equals "back pain for life" is just that, a myth. Myofascial Release helps thousands of people with scoliosis live an active, pain free lifestyle every day
Scoliosis affects an estimated six to nine million people in the United States. It is often diagnosed in childhood, and most patients are given few treatment options besides wearing a brace or undergoing invasive surgery. Sadly, most people with scoliosis are told they will just have to learn to live with the pain, discomfort and awkwardness they feel
about their bodies.
Plus, there are millions of people who have not been diagnosed with scoliosis but still have a small degree of abnormal curvature or rotation in their spine. Over time, this often results in chronic pain. Over the years, many people will try different therapies and excerises, but with limited results ...
After experiencing years of lower back pain from scoliosis and trying different modalities, ie, chiropractic, massage, rolfing, etc, what I found was none of the above could get me over the "hump".... out of pain. After meeting Elena through a mutual friend and having her explain "myofascial release," it made sense to give her a try. And what I found is, through several treatments and me doing my part at home, I am now almost completely out of lower back pain. The feeling only comes back occasionally, and those times seem to be getting further apart...... Awesomeness! ~Russ, age 65

I have found in my practice that Myofascial Release can be extremely beneficial for people with scoliosis. But how, and why?
The spine is actually a biotensegrity structure
... in fact your whole skeleton is. This means that none of your vertebrae or bones actually touch each other. Bones are suspended in a network of connective fibers called fascia. Fascia surrounds and interpenetrates all your muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones. Its the tension of these fascial fibers that hold your bones in place and gives your skeleton its shape.
See how in the spinal models, none of the wooden pieces (bones) actually touch each other? They are just held in place by all the cables (fascia). These fascial cables give the spine its shape.
Fascia has a tensile strength of 2000 lbs per square inch! That's the strength of a radial tire. And when these fibers are pulled or compressed, they will pull your bones with them, distorting the shape of your spine
and your whole skeleton.
So where does myofascial release come in? Myofascial Release is a specific therapeutic system that releases the tension of these fascial cables and allows your spine to return to a healthier shape. The result? Your muscles don't have to work so hard to hold you upright. Pressure on sensitive nerves is relieved. You look better, feel better, and move better. You can finally live an active, pain free lifestyle!
And it's not just about pain. Scoliosis affects people's lives in so many ways, from what we can or can't do to how we feel about our bodies ...
I have lived with scoliosis for most of my life. My top curve is at 31.4 and bottom curve is at 36.5. I have lived with constant back pain and issues. Standing too long, sitting too long, and laying too long all caused pain to flare up. This definitely effected my sleep, constant tossing and turning. Hours of sleep, lost. Along with the pain, being a young woman I was always self conscious about how the scoliosis made my figure look. These have all been things I have just accepted will be my life forever.
Then, I was in a car accident a year ago that left me with 4 herniated discs. My back pain became more frequent along with episodes where I was just stuck, unable to move or be comfortable in any position.
After my first visit with Elena I began to notice an immediate difference in my back pain. After 2 visits I began noticing a difference in my actual figure! After 4 visits my fiancé began to notice as well! I have drastically less chiropractic visits and no flare ups with my back going out or neck/shoulder getting stuck.
I also have HORRIBLE cramps and one of my appointments landed on a day where I was calling to reschedule my appointment for the day and Elena explained that her work could possibly help reduce the pain. She was not lying. My cramps usually leave me bedridden for the first day and I was walking out without pain.
All my life I thought my back issues could only be fixed with surgery. Elena has completely taken surgery out of the equation. I feel like a new person without back pain and a new women with a figure I am excited about!

Simply put, untreated scoliosis can make life unnecessarily painful and complicated. Sports, exercise and stretching can be a challenge. You might find there are some movements you just can't do without pain... even sitting can be painful. And since the body is already under extra stress, when an accident or injury occurs, it may be much more severe and take longer to heal. Scoliosis can really limit your freedom to live the life you want to live!
But you don't have to just grin and bear it. Love your body!! There are things you can do to regain your freedom and joy of movement. Regardless of age, severity or injury, myofascial release therapy can help you put the pain of scoliosis behind you.
